Big Bikes at Bungee Brent’s 10th Annual Backroad Bash & R1200GS Project Update 3

The CityBike Wrecking Crew goes to Bungee Brent’s Backroad Bash every year—it’s become something akin to an annual corporate retreat, which I understand is what real companies call these outings that serve as backdrops for trust falls, sexual harassment and blackmail fodder. It’s a bit of a misnomer, though: we’re not corporate, and we damn sure don’t retreat. Ever.

Badass bikes, big and small! (we decided 'Hot August Bikes' was too cheezy)

  • We fall in love, American Style, with the Fuller Motus.
  • We make up a bunch of ways to talk about our van in the context of Suzuki's VanVan.
  • Fish & Editor Surj take the wrong bikes to Bungee Brent's Backroad Bash: our R1200GS project bike and a Buell Ulysses.
  • An gets dirty at Garrahan Off-Road Training.
  • Max sneaks a few laps on 17-Mile Drive.
  • Locals Only: Peter Rose’s ’70 Honda CB750 Police Special.

Bungee Brent’s Backroad Bash 2016, or “Do You Wanna Get Murdered? ‘Cause This Is How You Get Murdered!”

The scene has a real “The Hills Have Eyes” vibe—we’re in a grove of trees, with many high vantage (sniper) points surrounding us. The hodgepodge of digging and gardening tools, oddball collection of vehicles ranging from a dilapidated Vanagon to a modern Tahoe, and makeshift tent-like shelters add up to just creepy enough for concern. Against our admittedly limited better judgment, we poke around and call out a bit more. No dice.

Apparently you do need six speeds!

  • We ride Yamaha's updated FJR1300A.
  • There's a "special dual-sport section," starting with a tale of three dual-sports. The latest on our CRF250L project; cheap-ish, light-ish XT225 dual-sport project; we turn a Honda Hawk GT into a "dual-sport."
  • Sam gets sheet done at the 2016 Sheetiron.
  • We ride Bungee Brent's Backroad Bash, with the aforementioned actual dual-sports and "dual-sport" Hawk, and bring a goddamn dune buggy. You know, just in case.

    Arrrrrs!

  • We ride Yamaha's incredibly good R1.
  • ...And the little R3, too.
  • The return of Miles Davis: What sort of man reads CityBike?
  • CityBike Wrecking Crew rides Bungee Brent's Backroad Bash (and get a little wrecked).
